counter.gratis

A free website counter that can be embedded with a small HTML snippet and used without creating an account.

What it is

counter.gratis provides a simple way to add a visible visitor counter to a website. A site owner selects a design, chooses the starting value where applicable, copies the generated HTML code and places it on the website. The service is designed to work without a registration process and offers a large selection of counter styles.

Why I built it

Many analytics products have become increasingly complex. A visible counter is a much smaller tool: it answers a basic question and can be installed on a page with very little setup. The project keeps that original idea while adding statistics that can be useful for understanding how a site is actually being visited.

What users can do

Depending on the selected counter and statistics view, users can follow visitors and pageviews as well as information such as countries, referrers, browsers, operating systems and device categories. Visitor counting and pageview counting are handled separately. The methodology page documents important details of the counting model and bot handling.
